Your brain or Your Back

“Hey! What's going on? It's Ian Hart here co creator of Back Pain Relief4Life and Back Pain Relief expert and today what I'm going to talk to you about Your Back vs. Your Brain. So it's no secret that obviously your brain is in control of your body. Everything comes from the brain. So when we have back pain, it's a manifestation of your body or of your brain and this is where there can be a little bit confusion that goes on so you might have try everything for your physical body but nothing is actually helped. And your brain can be the other spectrum or the other side of it that is causing the back pain and it can be a combination of both things.

So when it comes to your back in general, you can have back pain because of structural issues, muscular imbalances, injuries, things of that nature. A lot of back pain stems from a specific injuries. People think 'Oh! I did this movement or I fell on my back and now I have this pain there and it's there for the rest of my life.' When the fact is that it's a little bit deeper than that so because trauma has occurred in that area, you can be more susceptible to the pain but it doesn't necessarily work exactly like that. When you have pain, your brain receives a signal so (excuse the bad drawing of the brain but..) your brain receives a signal and it interprets pain and if you have had pain, a pattern of pain, repetitive pattern, there's actually a pathway that is created in the brain that is receiving pain so the more pain your brain is receiving, the more that pathway of pain is created in the brain. So a pathway would be like basically whenever you do something repetitively, you're creating a pathway in the brain. Let's say this is a pathway right? So when you do something over and over and over again, it's like adding more cement to a road making the pathway bigger, thicker and wider so every time you do something, every time you feel pain  or you do movement you feel pain, this pathway is getting bigger and bigger and your body is getting used to that stimulus or that pain you feel. So even when the physical body has removed pain, so say you do Back Pain Relief4Life and the structural issues are relieved.

There's no more trauma, we've broken down the scar tissue, everything feels better, you still might actually receive a pain signal from your brain or in your brain. So that takes time to break down that pattern, and that's actually what Back Pain Relief4Life is about, it's breaking down that pattern of pain and then restructuring the body so there is more strength, more nutrients to the injured area, more blood flow.

Also, what is important to understand is Lack of Sleep severely affects the brain, lack of sleep is connected with back pain. So if your emotions are off balance, it's connected with back pain and that's connected directly with sleep. There's been a lot of research done on that.

Lack of Oxygen in the brain, so there's not having enough oxygen in the brain in the body is going to cause back pain. So just moving around in general, exercise and getting blood flowing is gonna help eliminate back pain.

Lack of Serotonin and Dopamine, so those are the feel good chemicals in the brain. Some people do have a chemical imbalance, we can call them imbalances, they're not really imbalances, they're just you're a unique person so you have whatever chemicals you have in your brain compared to somebody else. It might be an imbalance but no one has a real imbalance. There's certain things that can be done to increase the level of serotonin and dopamine. For example exercise is going to be one of them and that is going to help you get release those feel good chemicals. There's certain things that will help reduce them which is going to be things like alcohol and we've done videos before like how alcohol is connected with back pain so if you're reducing serotonin and dopamine, you're going to have more back pain as well as tightening the muscles from alcohol. So drug use and stuff like that will reduce serotonin and dopamine, people who are more susceptible to less serotonin and dopamine production to brain want to stay away from any type of drugs cause you're going to feel back pain and move more towards exercise, healthier living. Not that anybody should do drugs but there's certain people that are more susceptible with back pain when they do those things.

Lack of vitamins and minerals, so not getting enough nutrients to the body and the brain will cause your body to be deficient and you can feel back pain just from those issues along which vitamins and minerals would also include water dehydration.

Again the Pain Pathway like I spoke about, we want to break that down. It's typically when there is a pain pathway, you might have a stress or trigger that causes you to tighten up around the back and that is all coming from the brain, that is unconscious. Watch yourself when you have back pain or neck pain or tightness somewhere, think about it. Connect your mind and see if you are holding tension in your body. This happens with everybody all the time. I do it myself, if I find myself in a stressful situation, I analyze what I am feeling and then I realized 'Whoa I was just holding tightness on my lower back for no reason at all' and that tightness led the pain and so what I might have to do is reset myself okay, relax my brain, relax my mind, internal relax my muscles and all of the sudden the pain goes away in sometimes few short minutes, sometimes it takes a little bit longer but, what is very important is exercise portion of this. So you can actually break down the pattern of the brain by doing Back Pain Relief4Life and you are also going to not only help the brain, neuromuscularly connecting the body and the brain together as well as strengthening the muscles and the ligaments and everything that surrounds the pelvis, the hips, the spine, it even helps the knees, upper back and neck as well. So this is Ian Hart from Back Pain Relief4Life, just explaining to you the difference between the physical and the brain and how they connect with pain and how you can really help reduce your back pain with both of those incorporated and also doing Back Pain Relief4Life program that's gonna help tremendously with your overall physical and mental well being.”

“…I could even touch my toes now. I haven’t been able to touch my toes in 20 years…”

Back Pain Relief 4Life Testimonial Jim

"About 25 years ago, I was diagnosed with something called spinal stenosis which is actually arthritis
in the back and I've done all kinds of steroidal injections; I've done all kinds of different exercises; I've been on all kinds anti-inflammatories over and number of years and in quite frankly they were just all stop gap measures and in one that gave me temporary relief but nothing in a long-term basis.

I've been following the program for about 3 and a half months now and quite frankly I can get out of the bed in the morning better than I have in 30 years. I'm able to bent over and pick up the papers in the morning, which I wasn't able to do. I walk more upright, I'm not as stoved over like I have been in the past and quite frankly I credit it all the exercises in this program. I'm religious about it now – I do it at least once, if not twice a day and it's helped me considerably.

I recommend it as a measure with anybody that has tried anything else and it hasn’t worked. Try this before surgery- and believe me there were enough surgeons that wanted me to go under the knife and do the things that I didn't want to, just because it's a spinal cord injury and I've heard all kinds of horrible things about that with the results you know it's a 50-50 shot and I've really been putting that off for years and years and I’m glad I did because now I feel a lot better, and I feel alot better now I've been doing the exercises.

Well, I guess in the beginning, I was skeptical about just exercise because I've done so many exercises, so many different kinds of exercises that had been placed on me, that I've taken. You know, it may give you a little bit of relief, I've done all kinds of stretches, whatever it might be but these work better than anything else I've tried in the past. My back is a lot freer, I’m actually even to an extent running now, I haven't run in 15 to 20 years! The pounding on running isn't good for your back obviously any neurosurgeon will tell you that. And now I could even run couple of miles now and it doesn't bother me afterwards. So I'm up in my training more. I’d like to lose a lot more weight obviously and I've lost a little bit since I've been working out, but I need to lose a lot more and I think that may able to help my back even more. My knees feel good now, no sciatic pain down my leg which I had in the past, I could sit much more comfortably than I have in my past. But the biggest thing is I'm not just walking – and you know I'm 65 years old, but – I'm not walking like an 85 yrs old man or 90 yrs old man and unfortunately when I had the attacks of my back over and number of years, I would walk all stoved over and look much more than my age quite frankly.

My life after Relief4Life has been a lot different. Obviously I can do things that I haven’t in the past. You know I can play golf 3 or 4 times in a week, I can only play once or twice in the past and then my back would hurt me even after 3, 4 or 5 times, a relationship with exercise are concerned under Relief4Life, I felt much better – no pain and I wasn't all stoved over like I've mentioned before, looking like some decrepit, hundred year-old man or something like that and believe me in the morning that is exactly what I look like. I'd get out of bed and would take me 10 or 15 minutes before I could straighten up. Now I jump out of bed. I could jump outside and pick up the paper. I could do a lot more things than I have in the past – golf, running, more exercise than I haven't been able to go in the past in relationship to lifting weights and the things that could keep me strong as I age.

Well I've had the back pain probably for almost 20-25 years. I played  rugby until I was 40 and
that's when it really started in earnest and so that's 25 years ago and so I've had it for 25 years but in the last 3 months I've basically have no back pain whatsoever. So it's a lot different for me in life and it's great!

About how many sessions until I really started feeling better would probably about 4 or 5. I knew it take at least that much and that 4 or 5 sessions was really in the first week so you know 5, 6 days where I really started to feel different in relationship to where my posture is concerned and bending over and I could even touch my toes now. I haven't been able to touch my toes in 20 years and that has little something to do with my hamstrings also and some of the things I've been working out. But it was basically my back, my back restricted a lot that I did and now I don't have that restrictions anymore.

As far as recommending Relief4Life? Definitely! I mean there's so many things that I've tried. I talked about steroid injections and I've probably went through with that about 6 or 8 of those in a number of different places that I lived with different doctors and some were excellent doctors and some these same doctors told me it was time for me to get operated on and it's something I really don't want to go under. You hear all kinds of things in relationship to spinal operations. It's not something that I wanted to undertaken and Relief4Life quite frankly has been able to put that off for me. So I feel very grateful that I tried this new set of exercises, stretching exercises and it's helped me out dramatically."

“… I’ve done it, so I know how I feel, how I felt, and it’s pretty astounding what happened.”

Back Pain Relief4Life Testimonial Bill

"Now I hurt my back in 1998 and I have been dealing basically with back pain and stenosis and numbness and that sort of thing ever since. So, then I came to you and we’ve had what 8 sessions I guess now. And just like yesterday, I rode my bike down to the golf tournament in Hilton Head and it was about about 8 miles each way, walked around the golf course. I could not done that you know before, I did it then.

Well, I was skeptical because you know people try shots, they try a lot of different gizmos, or cures and I didn't want to go there. I just believed in what I read, and once I met Ian, then I was really pretty well convinced that this is what I wanted to do and I'm clearly glad I did it.

I would definitely recommend Relief4Life, believe it or not I've done it, so I know how I feel, how I felt and it's pretty astounding what happened. If somebody is skeptical about what you are doing, or what we are doing here, I would just merely explain to them don't take my word for it. Go there, see what they can do, watch what they do, they give you a video that you can do at home so you're never really going to be away from it. So if they're skeptical I say "Hey, I know a lot of people who are when they have had problem. Just try it."

Back Pain Relief 4Life Testimonial Jim

"Before Relief4Life I had severe pains running up and down my right on my right leg and nothing seemed to help. My pain before was continuous, shooting pains down my right side and my back and it prevented me from walking normally and doing many things that I am used to doing.

From Relief4Life I end up…my pain is less than I was before and I feel like I could get it under control. I can walk free of pain.

I really wasn't skeptical because I tried many things from chiropractors to other programs and nothing seemed to help so I was willing to try anything. I certainly would recommend this program for anyone who has back pain."

“… within 2 weeks after coming to Relief4Life, I experienced zero back pain and I feel strong”

Back Pain Relief4Life Testimonial Dale

"Before Relief4Life, I had experienced 3 major back injuries and I lived with back pain, medical injections, different things, chiropractic and lived with upper and lower back pain for years. Heavy carpentry and labor type intensive of work and within 2 weeks after coming to Relief4Life, I experienced zero back pain and I feel strong, I've lost a considerable amount of weight and I just feel better about life in general, I have more energy and I am ready to meet the day and I thank the people here at Relief4Life for that.

I guess I was most skeptical or maybe leery of the pain process of training, I've tried different training regimens and it just created a lot of discomfort during the day and afterwards – the morning after effects – but the people here really care about your welfare and your well-being and so all my fears have been relieved.

If you enjoy your pain, then don't come. If you wanted to be relieved, I would give Relief4Life as

a viable option. Yes! I would absolutely recommend this to anybody. Well it's like anything you got to try to believe it."

“Relief4Life has added 20-30 yards to my drive, and made me more comfortable hitting the [golf] ball”

What was your life [like] before Relief4Life program?

“It was a life of stiffness and I couldn't hit the golf ball as far as I would have liked to have hit it. But I did play tennis with a brace on and for a period of time, I used a brace when I was playing golf.”

How long have you experienced your back pain before Relief4Life?

“50 years “

Okay, How long [have you been] doing the Relief4Life program?

“About 3 weeks. Well I had many Chiropractic treatments and I had a disc enzyme treatment which was in lieu of a laminectomy about 30 years ago, and that worked for a while. And my back had been in somewhat of a holding period of considerable stiffness.”

Have you been skeptical about using [Relief4Life] at first?

“Oh yeah. Indeed.”

Can you tell me a little bit about that? Why were you skeptical?

“Well because my back was straightened and a stiff position and I was skeptical that exercise could relieved that condition. After two weeks of the program my back is fine. Relief4Life has added 20-30 yards to my drive, and made me more comfortable hitting the ball.

I would recommend Relief4Life for golfers… I would recommend Relief4life for anyone who has a back problem.”

“I’m actually a true believer and didn’t I think I would be”

"Before Back Pain Relief4Life I had back pain and I had in the Marine Corps, injured my back. I used to have spondylolisthesis so I had a clean breakaway across my back. That was back in 2006 and surgery. Had surgery in 2007, four titanium balls in the back and an L5/S1 fusion and since I've been trying to get back to the same level of fitness I had been in the past. I had been in a pretty rigorous workout regime, but I was getting to the point where I could only workout about 2 days, then I had to take about a week to 10 days off before I could try again and it just was not working for me. So, I thought I was going to have to suck it up and just keep dealing with it.

Then a good friend of mine, Bob Turner, told me about Relief4Life and I gave it a try and I've been doing it for about 2 weeks now and believe it or not, I am getting relief. Some of the examples of that, I am able to walk our dog now before when I was walking our dog, I’d come back and I’d be gimping my way back to the house after chasing after the dog. Now, I feel great walking back. And driving use to be – especially long distances was miserable for me. I’d usually have to stop, get out, shake it out a little bit and then make it back in the car. Well, just this week, drove to Atlanta in the morning, 5 hours in the car, had meetings and drove back that night. So all total 10 hours in the car and it felt great. I felt really good so I'm actually a true believer and didn’t I think I would be. I never thought I'd try something like this, I did, and it really is transforming me.

Absolutely! I’d recommend Back Pain Relief4Life, great program! So I’m probably going to have to run around and find people that have back problems and let them come here – so far I am the only one who has 1 people that I know that has a back problem. I'll find somebody; but yeah absolutely it’s great. I love it too because it’s no drugs there's nothing like that, it's just a great exercise program and I noticed a big difference in just 2 weeks doing it."

“I just felt stronger, more agile and overall in a better mood and spirit…”

Just got this message from Chris, a friend of mine that I have know since as far back as I can remember. In only 2 sessions and he had dramatic relief! This is why we need to win the Fit or Flop challenge, so we can reach more people suffering from back pain http://fitorflop.com/contestants/ian_hart/

“I just felt stronger, more agile and overall in a better mood and spirit…”

"In 2005 I broke my back (fractured Sacrum and displaced L-5) snowboarding. I rode about a quarter mile on my chin with the board hitting the back of my head. I spent weeks in a back brace on a healthy dose of pain killers, anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxants. I say a healthy dose because it literally was enough to supplement a meal. After about 2 months I was able to start physical therapy. I did this for about a year until I started to feel somewhat normal again with the aid of my steady diet of pills. Eventually I did feel better and went to the gym often to build my lower back muscles. I was able to get off of the pills, but still needed them from time to time as my back was never truly healed. I actually went a few years with moderate pain here and there, but nothing terrible. I continued doing the exercises from my physical therapy throughout, which definitely helped, but never really cured my pain completely.

About two years ago, my pain came back with a vengeance. My L-5 was slipping all the time. You could literally watch it go in and out as I leaned forward and back up. People were amazed when I would show them. To have a disc literally grinding in and out every time you lean forward them back upright is extremely painful. I went back to the doctors and was given a nice healthy diet of even more delicious treats (totally sarcastic, I really hate pills!). I was recommended to physical therapy, but I had been down that road before, knew what they had to tell me and didn’t really have the time or money to spend at a therapist 3 days a week. I decided to try a chiropractor.

With the chiropractor, I did notice results. It took some time, but with the visits and recommended stretches and posture fixes, I was feeling much better. I truly do love my chiropractor as he has done a lot to fix my neck, shoulder, back and ankles. I was feeling much better as a result, but my back still was not strong and I hate the fear of throwing my back out while doing chores around the house. Sure enough, doing these chores, I have managed to throw my back out several times over the last few years. This is followed by many visits to the chiropractor, which work, but really haven’t provided much confidence in a permanent fix. That is until now! 2 weeks ago, I strained my back shoveling the driveway. My disc has been sliding out again and again and I went back to the Chiro. After a few adjustments, I felt a little better but I knew this was only a temporary fix and I still had substantial pain. It was time to try something different once again.

I have known Ian since we were little kids playing soccer together and have been fortunate to remain friends with him and his family over the years. He’s a great guy who I knew I could trust, so when he told me to give his program a try I listened. I normally would never just believe in some new program trying to make a name for itself as I am a very skeptical person. While this skepticism has served me well in the past, I knew I could trust Ian so I gave it a shot.

After my first session, the pain was still somewhat there, but I really felt much different. The pain was less and I just felt stronger, more agile and overall in a better mood and spirit as I just felt more empowered in general. I couldn’t do any activities for the previous two weeks, but I felt so good I went out and played 9 holes of golf without a cart! This morning I woke up sore (from the exercises), but not stiff, big difference! I did another session and once again, I just felt great all around. My pain is much less today and there is no stiffness. When I stood up from my last exercise, I literally felt taller. I used to be a bit over 6’4” but lost about an inch over the years since the back issues started. I am not sure if this is just a feeling of nostalgia, but I really do notice I am walking a bit taller. I really am looking forward to the weeks to come as I am curious as to how much more agile I will become? How much stronger I can get? If I will actually get back up to my usual height? If I will gain that confidence to go out and do that tree work I have been putting off? And, if I will continue to have this general feeling of being in good spirits?

I really didn’t notice how much my pain could influence my moods until now. Most people who know me can’t believe how many serious injuries I have sustained and how well I deal with the pain. I take pride in being able to take pain and just deal with it. I thought I was doing a good job of being myself regardless of how much pain I was in. I never complain to anyone and try to do whatever I can to not burden anyone. I grin and bear it, without actually grinning at people. I am noticing just now that I really wasn’t doing the best job of hiding it as I really am a more positive person. I just realized today that this pain really does take its toll on your overall attitude and persona. I feel happy today and ready to go out and just do good things. After years of pain, I kind of forgot how much more of a positive person I was. Thank you for everything Ian and Bojan!"

Yoga and Back Pain

Yoga and back pain is a common issue that we see on a regular basis. This video explains our experience and the science behind yoga and back pain. The biggest thing to take away from all this is that your core musculature should be prepared before doing yoga and that you should not go into yoga with back pain. If your core integrity is sub par then the spinal flexion in yoga can create more damage and micro trauma to the lower back. We recommend http://www.backpainrelief4life.com/ to eliminate back pain and prepare yourself for doing yoga or even a strength and conditioning program. Click the link to see if Back Pain Relief4Life is what you are looking for when it come to back pain relief.

Hey! What's going on? It's Ian Hart here at Backpainrelief4life.com. I'm a Back Pain Relief expert and Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

Dealing with people with back pain we get questions all the time. One of them being "What about Yoga for back pain?" or "Should I do Yoga?" or "I have back pain. Some people told me that it helped their back, other people told me that their back has got worse cause it.” So we've seen this a lot and we've dealt with it a lot so I'm going to explain our experience and then also the research and science behind these as well.

Yoga and Back Pain

So first off, there are numerous types of yoga now. Before – 20-30 years ago, there was just traditional type of yoga. Now, people have taken yoga and they've branched off and they are doing different things so you hear Power yoga, you hear the Vinyasa yoga, Hot yoga or Bikram yoga. There are so many different types. So it depends on what type of yoga you are doing, first off. It also depends on the instructor as with everything else that’s going on. But, typically what we see in Yoga is a lot of spinal flexion and spinal flexion would be mean flexing the spine forward; so, bending at the lower back, bending the spine. What we know from research is that your spine only has so many spinal flexions to it so if you are given in your life a million spinal flexions, you are using them up every time you do spinal flexion. So we want to limit the amount of spinal flexions we do. So we want to keep our back straight which is why we hear people say "Keep your back straight, push your hips back, squat, pick things up." So we want to limit spinal flexion. So we know yoga does have a lot of spinal flexion in it. I'll get to this one, people with Back Pain what should they do? I'll get to that in a minute.

Yoga and Back Pain

If you're going to do yoga, it is our feelings and experience that you must be prepared well to do it. Meaning, you must have core integrity, so you must have core strength. Your core should be strong and ready to do the yoga, because if you're doing a lot of spinal flexion, and you don't have the core musculature to support the spine then you are going to create damage in the discs, the nerves, the lower back and cause micro trauma each time you do spinal flexion. When you have the core structure and musculature, the stress put more on the muscles to do the work. So, you want to fix your back pain first and do the best program for your back before you go into yoga. You want to do specific [movements] that stretch your type muscles, strengthen the weaker muscles and then take pressure, stress off your lower back and again strengthen those core muscles around the spine. So that's our biggest recommendation for you if you have back pain and you’re considering yoga. You’d probably want to prepare yourself first for it… And there are always exceptions to that rule, right?

So what should people with back pain do first? Well we've been dealing with back pain issues for 5, 6 years now in a specific program. I personally suffered 10 years of my life before this program and I tried Yoga, I tried it all, everything short of surgery literally I tried everything. So if you're interested in healing your back because you want to do yoga, what we recommend is go ahead and click the link below and check to see if Back Pain Relief4Life would be a good program for you to help eliminate your back pain, strengthen your core muscles, stretch the tight muscles that you have, and just overall feel better. Posture and Back Pain Relief

Hey! What's going on? It's Ian Hart here, back pain relief expert, Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and Co-Creator of Back Pain Relief4Life.

So today I am going to speak to you about posture and back pain. There is numerous different things I can speak about, but today I am going to speak about something in particular which has to do with the diaphragm. The diaphragm supported by intercostals in the ab muscles. When these muscles are weak, it can actually lead to shorter breaths and less oxygen uptake in the body. When you have these strengthened, then you are going to get more oxygen to the body and that is one benefit. But the other side of it is if they are weak, it's going to change your posture and then that is going to cause back pain or can lead to back pain; and I am going to explain a little bit later about what we see with the typical client with back pain many times. So just in general, better posture is going to lead to a better body function, correct muscular imbalances or take away muscular imbalances. So you are just going to feel better in general, but you are also going to breathe better.

What we say a lot of times is people coming in their ribs are raised up because they have no integrity here, no core strength, their intercostals are weak, so nothing is pulling that down into this better posture, better position. As soon as the ribs are raised, instantly I feel more stress on my lower back. As soon as I drop my ribs and tighten my abs, stress is taken right off the back. So you can imagine if someone’s sitting down all day and their abs and intercostals are weak and those muscles over years become weaker and weaker and weaker and the ribs become more and more raised, more and more stresses on the lower back, the low muscles become weaker these is how the body posture changes over years and creates back pain.

So what we want to do is strengthen the intercostals and the abs together, which will again like I said get more oxygen to the body so you raises your VO2 Max. Oxygen is essential for living life, feeling better having more energy. So when you are breathing short, it is going to get less oxygen to your body; less oxygen to your pain area – which will prevent recovery, if you're trying to heal from something or you are trying to get rid of back pain, you need more oxygen in the body.  So better posture for better breathing especially when it deals with the diaphragm, increasing strength in the intercostals and the abs, better body function, you will have faster recovery and less stress on the spine.

So there are a few exercises that you can do for increasing strength in the intercostals and the abs. We are going to put that in a later video and actually I might post that link below this video. If you have back pain right now and you find that your ribs are raised, and you might be able to tell that your intercostals and abs are weak, what I would recommend is clicking the link below for Back Pain Relief4Life and see if that program would work for you and help you get rid of back pain and also, lower the ribs, increase core strength, get more oxygen and blood flow to your spine and just make you feel better overall and in general. So this is Ian Hart with Back Pain Relief4Life, if you have any comments or questions go ahead and leave it below and go ahead and click that link right now.
